Inside Open Source – behind the scene of SeaMonkey
How on earth is it possible to run open source projects based on voluntary co-workers only?

A very sceptical audience of IT-experts gathered at the IT Extrazimmer – event of UBIT Wien for a talk given by Robert Kaiser, project coordinator of the Seamonkey project.

Robert Kaiser stayed calm and serene because practice has proved simply that it works and he told the listeners about normal course of project work.

A very lively discussion came up when he reached the point of financing Open Source projects. Especially the term „commercial“ Open Source excited the minds and was considered an unsolvable paradox.

It was interesting to watch how wide the gap still is between open source and commercial software concepts in the opinion of experts and it seemed that some were even trying to keep the gap unbridgeable though Open Source elements are ubiquitous nowadays. There is still a lot of communication work left to be done to clear out prejudices!
